DJSLEEVE, A DISKETTE SLEEVE PRINTER FOR DESKJET PRINTERS
============================================================
Tired of writing all the names of the files on your diskettes on those
tiny labels that are supplied with them? If you're like me, you have
quite a few floppies full of archived files to store each week.
DJSLEEVE (Version 2.0) will print out sleeves for your 3-1/2" and
5-1/4" diskettes which will contain:
o An optional Title (up to 59 characters)
o Number of files and directories on the disk
o Amount of storage space remaining (in bytes) on the disk
o Name, Extension, Date, and Size of all* the files
in the root directory and all subdirectories on
the diskette
* Up to 172 files on a 3 1/2" diskette, 196 files on a
5 1/4" diskette.
All you will have to do is cut each sleeve out, fold as indicated and
tape or glue the side flaps, and you will have a nice storage sleeve
for all your diskettes. Cutting and taping takes too much time?
What about all the time you spend getting writer's cramp trying to
get all those tiny little file names on your labels!
Be creative. Use colored paper for disks containing the same types of
files, e.g. clip art, PageMaker or Ventura files, spreadsheets, etc.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
o IBM PC XT, AT, or compatible
o One floppy disk drive
o DOS 3.0 or higher
o DeskJet, DeskJet+ or DeskJet 500(C) printer connected to
LPT1:, LPT2: or LPT3:
To use the program from a hard disk:
Copy the file DJSLEEVE.EXE to your hard disk. Placing it in a
subdirectory which is part of your PATH statement will allow you
to run the program from any subdirectory by typing DJSLEEVE at the
DOS command line, otherwise you will have to log on to the
subdirectory containing the DJSLEEVE.EXE file before typing
DJSLEEVE on the command line.
To use the program from a floppy disk drive:
Place the floppy disk containing the DJSLEEVE.EXE file in Drive A
or Drive B. Log on to that drive by typing A: or B:, whichever is
appropriate. Load the program by typing DJSLEEVE on the command
line. When the program has been loaded into memory, you may
remove the program disk from the disk drive if you need to use
that disk drive to place a disk for making a sleeve.
To install DJSLEEVE as a DOS application running under Windows 3.x:
Copy the files DJSLEEVE.EXE, DJSLEEVE.ICO and DJSLEEVE.PIF into
the subdirectory on your hard disk containing your Windows files.
Load Windows as you normally do. From the Program Manager, click
on your Main group (or whatever group you wish to install DJSLEEVE
in) and then pull down the File/New/Program Item menu. Type
"DJSleeve" on the first line, then DJSLEEVE.PIF on the second
line. Click on "Change icon," then type "DJSLEEVE.ICO" in the
first box, click on View Next, then click on OK, then OK again.
The DJSLEEVE icon should appear in your program group.
To run this program in Windows, double click on the DJSLEEVE icon.
To use the program from the DOS prompt, turn your printer on (it must
be connected to LPT1:, LPT2:, or LPT3:), then type DJSLEEVE on the
command line. The program will prompt you to place a disk in drive A
or B, then to enter the title you want to put on the sleeve (optional,
just press ENTER to skip the title), the disk drive your disk is in (A
or B), and the size of the disk, 3 1/2" or 5 1/4". You will then be
prompted for the parallel port your DeskJet is connected to: LPT1:,
LPT2: or LPT3:. Type the appropriate number, then press ENTER.
The program will read the disk (a message "WORKING, PLEASE WAIT A
MOMENT" will be displayed), then print the sleeve. This process will
take a few seconds, more if your particular floppy disk drive is on the
slow side, or there are many files and/or subdirectories on the floppy
disk. After the sleeve is printed, you will be prompted to print
additional sleeves if you like (type Y or y), or exit (type N or n).
Cut out each sleeve along the solid lines, fold back on the dotted
lines, then glue or tape the flaps to the back. If your 3 1/2" sleeve
contains more than 132 files, an additional 44 files will print outside
the margin of the sleeve itself. You can cut this section out
separately, and slip into the sleeve along with your diskette.
I welcome your comments about this program. If you have suggestions
for further enhancements, please feel free to contact me on CompuServe
(75160,2530) or by mail.

DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE
Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying it.
If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected to
register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request registration
while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period. With
registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using the
software to an updated program with printed manual.
Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
copy their Shareware.
Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or
Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.
Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
product, you don't pay for it.
DISCLAIMER - AGREEMENT
Users of DJSLEEVE must accept this disclaimer of warranty: "DJSLEEVE is
supplied as is. The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied,
including, without limitation, the warranties of merchantability and of
fitness for any purpose. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct
or consequential, which may result from the use of DJSLEEVE."
DJSLEEVE is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to the user
for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but please do not
give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence of "user-
supported" software is to provide personal computer users with quality
software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
continue to develop new products. If you find this program useful and find
that you are using DJSLEEVE and continue to use DJSLEEVE after a reasonable
trial period, you must make a registration payment of $14.95 to Jerry M.
Johnson. The $14.95 registration fee will license one copy for use on any
one computer at any one time. You must treat this software just like a book.
An example is that this software may be used by any number of people and
may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so long as
there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's being
used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons
at the same time.
Commercial users of DJSLEEVE must register and pay for their copies of
DJSLEEVE within 30 days of first use or their license is withdrawn. Site-
License arrangements may be made by contacting Jerry M. Johnson.
Anyone distributing DJSLEEVE for any kind of remuneration must first contact
Jerry M. Johnson at the address below for authorization. This authorization
will be automatically granted to distributors recognized by the Association
of Shareware Professionals as adhering to its guidelines for shareware
distributors, and such distributors may begin offering DJSLEEVE immediately
(However Jerry M. Johnson must still be advised so that the distributor
can be kept up-to-date with the latest version of DJSLEEVE.).
You are encouraged to pass a copy of DJSLEEVE along to your friends for
evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they find that
they can use it. All registered users will receive a copy of the latest
version of DJSLEEVE, and will be notified of future enhancements.
Jerry M. Johnson is a member of the Association of Shareware Professionals
(ASP). ASP wants to make sure that the shareware principle works for you.
If you are unable to resolve a shareware-related problem with an ASP member
by contacting the member directly, ASP may be able to help. The ASP Ombudsman
can help you resolve a dispute or problem with an ASP member, but does not
provide technical support for members' products. Please write to the ASP
Ombudsman at 545 Grover Road, Muskegon, MI 49442 or send a CompuServe
message via CompuServe Mail to ASP Ombudsman 70007,3536.
